There are numerous things to do on the East Side of Kauai. Whether you’re staying on the east shore or visiting for the day, you definitely won’t run out of options. In fact, one day really isn’t enough to explore and enjoy the Royal Coconut Coast!
There are so many things to do on Kauai’s East Side: Delightful restaurants, a biking trail, and don’t even get me started on the sunrise- it’s absolutely breathtaking! Not to mention there are some really great hotels on the east side, most right on the beach!

Kauai East Shore Things to do
Wailua
Wailua Falls– A beautiful view that requires no hiking whatsoever, yay! Easily accessible by car, this waterfall in Kauai is famous for being in the opening credits of the TV show Fantasy Island. It’s the perfect stop to soak up the beauty that is Kauai.

Opaeka’a Falls– Just off Kuamo’o road there is a large parking lot and these magnificent falls are just a few steps away.
Wailua River Lookout– Up a short distance and across the road from Opaeka’a Falls is the Wailua River Lookout. Such a great spot to stop and get pictures of the river.

Smith’s Tropical Paradise– On the East Shore of Kauai you’ll find Smith’s, a tropical paradise located in Wailua. Mostly known for their Luau and Fern Grotto Wailua River Cruise, Smith’s also has a 30 acre garden park filled with fruit, bamboo, flowers, and birds. It’s the perfect place for a slow walk or a garden picnic.
Kapa’a
Ke Ala Hele Makalae Trail– Otherwise known as the Kapa’a bike path, this 8 mile trail is so much fun! Whether you’re walking or biking, the views can’t be beat. There are also spots to stop and rest, take in the scenery, or even have a picnic!

Coconut Marketplace-No doubt my favorite thing to do on the East side of Kauai is visit Coconut Marketplace. The shops, the restaurants, the ambiance! They even have a free Luau and Farmer’s Market. Learn more about Coconut Marketplace Kauai in this post!
Downtown Kapa’a– Take a stroll downtown in Kapa’a and you’ll find everything from souvenir shops and local boutiques to restaurants and food trucks. It’s a super fun place to just relax, check out the local goods and get your grub on.
Fuji Beach– Out of all the East side Kauai beaches, Fuji beach is my favorite. There’s just something about it. As we stroll along Moanakai Road, we look at the homes that face the ocean and wonder if the people who live there know how lucky they are.

More Things to do on the East Side of Kauai
Lihue
Kalapaki Beach– This is a very popular beach on the East side of Kauai. Lined with beautiful hotels such as the Royal Sonesta and delightful restaurants like Duke’s and Portofino, it’s popular with visitors and locals alike.
Lydgate Beach Park– With two pond areas formed by rocks, these calm waters are perfect for those wanting to get in the water that might not be strong swimmers. Lifeguards are also on duty, and there are picnic tables, a play area and restrooms.

Kauai Museum– Since 1960, the Kauai Museum has been preserving history, showcasing artifacts and sharing the stories of the island. Visit their website to see the Kauai Museum hours and cost of admission.
Food Trucks– There are a plethora of yummy places to eat on Kauai’s east side, and food trucks are exceptionally popular. In fact, you’ll find a nice selection right across from Kalapaki beach next to Harbor Mall. My family loves to eat, and trying out different food trucks on Kauai is one of the things we really enjoy doing.
